Mold Sounds

Queering Ecologies in Polyphonic Material Explorations

Activities: Research through Design, Video Production

Year: 2024-25

Year: 2019

"Mold Sounds: Queering Ecologies in Polyphonic Material Explorations" is a sonic environment in which molds grow within biomaterial circuit components to alter the volume and introduce distortion into piezo buzzer tones at different rates by changing the components’ resistance values. In "Mold Sounds," we engage molds as biomaterials in more-than-human design using queer ecologies as a lens to reorient narratives of toxicity.
